Days 1-2 / July 14-15 Arrival & Orientation in Nairobi

  • Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and transfer to accommodation
  • Welcome orientation: meet your cohort, instructors, and Kenyan creative partners
  • Introduction to documentary filmmaking ethics and storytelling frameworks
  • Equipment distribution and technical setup sessions
Days 3-4/ July 16-17 Urban Storytelling in Nairobi

Urban Storytelling in Nairobi

  • Visit Nairobi’s contemporary art galleries and creative hubs (GoDown Arts Centre, Kuona Trust)
  • Hands-on workshop with local filmmakers and photographers on visual composition
  • Street photography expedition through Nairobi’s diverse neighborhoods
  • Evening: meet local activists and hear stories of social change movements
Days 5-6/ July 18-19 Silicon Safari: Innovation Hub

Silicon Safari: Innovation Hub

  • Tour of Nairobi’s tech ecosystem (iHub, BRCK, local startups)
  • Interview sessions with tech entrepreneurs and innovators
  • Documentary editing workshop: crafting narratives from raw footage

  • Travel to the Green Belt Movement headquarters and reforestation sites

  • Journey to the Kenyan coast (Mombasa or Lamu archipelago)
  • Explore Swahili architecture, culture, and centuries-old trading history
  • Document coastal communities: fishermen, dhow builders, and artisans

Days 14-15/ July 27-28 Reflection & Final Screening
